A HOLIDAY AT TRASIMENO LAKE
It is the fourth largest lake in Italy and is characterised by several nature reserves, two beautiful islands (Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese) that you can visit by ferry boat, castles and mediaeval hamlets (Castiglione del Lago, Monte del Lago, Passignano sul Trasimeno).
In about 30 minutes from I Casali di Colle San Paolo you will reach several pretty beaches with small bathing establishments with cafès and restaurants that offer canoeing, waterskiing, pedal boat rentals, beach volley and other waterside activities.
From I Casali di Colle San Paolo you will be able to make very pleasant and interesting visits to Lake Trasimeno, fun for the kids as well!
UMBRIAN HAMLETS (and delicious restaurants!)
Panicale is a delightful mediaeval hamlet on a hill with a beautiful view of Lake Trasimeno below. To see: the “Martyrdom of St. Sebastian” fresco by the Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino, and the Teatro Cesare Caporali, one of the smallest historical theatres in Italy.
Castiglione del Lago has a 16th-century palace and a castle overlooking the lake that offers fantastic views from its 30-metre high tower. In this town there are also many small shops selling local food specialties and wine.
Città della Pieve is a beautiful hamlet of Etruscan origin and city of origin of the painter Pietro Vannucci, called “Il Perugino”, of whom it conserves several masterpieces.
We will be happy to suggest our favourite restaurants in all these characteristic hamlets and in the area.
